Sounders blank Rapids, advance

Kevin Forrest scored in the 62nd minute as the Seattle Sounders defeated the Colorado Rapids 1-0 Tuesday at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash., in a U.S. Open Cup play-in game.

Roger Levesque headed Sanna Nyassi’s long throw-in toward goal. Forrest’s diving header gave the Sounders a lead they would not give up.

The attendance was 4,007.

The match was the second for the Rapids in four days against Seattle; Colorado and the Sounders tied 2-2 on Saturday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
