The Colorado Force will face the defending W-League champion Pali Blues on Saturday evening at the Stadium-By-The-Sea in Pacific Palisades, Calif., in the opening round of the W-League playoffs.

Saturday’s match marks the first playoff appearance for the Force since 1998, when the club won the W-League’s W2 national championship.

Pali (9-0-3) won the Western Conference for the second straight year. The Blues have been undefeated since entering the W-League last summer, with an overall record of 23-0-3 over two seasons.

Colorado finished 4-2-6 this season.

In 2009, Colorado and Pali tied 0-0 at Loveland Sports Park on June 14 and Pali topped the Force 3-0 in California on July 10.

HALFTIME ENTERTAINMENT: International star Marta and her Los Angeles Sol teammates will hold a special on-field autograph session for fans.

W-LEAGUE FIRST ROUND: In all, 12 teams qualified in the league’s three conferences. The Hudson Valley Quickstrike qualified for the semifinal round as the regular-season champion. The 11 other qualifiers are battling for the other three semifinal positions.

MORE PLAYOFFS: The W-League semifinals will be July 31-Aug. 1, followed by the finals on the weekend of Aug. 7-8.
