The MLS leaders, with a history of doing poorly at altitude, traveled from LA Wednesday and handed the Colorado Rapids the team’s first home loss of the season.

Los Angeles did just enough to get by the Rapids, 1-0, at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. It was the Galaxy’s first win in five visits since the Rapids moved into DSG.

Striker Alan Gordon delivered the header on a Landon Donovan free kick in the 21st minute that provided the victory. It was the Galaxy’s 11th goal in seven games and the first one that didn’t involved Edson Buddle. Buddle scored nine of the previous 10 goals for the Galaxy and provided the assist on the 10th. He was held without a point on Wednesday.

For the rest of the half and the rest of the game, Omar Cummings was the most dangerous man on the field. Cummings made repeated runs at the Galaxy, but failed to tally.

With the win, LA improved to 6-0-1 (19 points) and a commanding lead in the West. Colorado dropped to 3-3-1 (10 points). The Rapids have now been shutout in consecutive matches. Colorado fell to San Jose 1-0 on Saturday.

Rapids 11: Matt Pickens, Danny Earls, Marvell Wynne, Julien Baudet, Drew Moor, Mehdi Ballouchy (Claudio Lopez 71), Pablo Mastroeni, Jeff Larentowicz, Wells Thompson (Colin Clark 46), Conor Casey, Cummings.

Galaxy 11: Donovan Ricketts, A.J. DeLaGarza (Bryan Jordan 81), Omar Gonzalez, Gregg Berhalter, Todd Dunivant, Michael Stephens, Christopher Birchall, Juninho (Jovan Kirovski 62), Donovan, Buddle, Gordon (Clint Mathis 71).

1-0 Again: All three Rapids losses have been 1-0 scores.
