Foxes get everything but a shutout
The Premier Development League team for Springfield carries the moniker “Demize” as part of its name. Over the weekend, the team was obliterated.
The Real Colorado Foxes came home to Shea Stadium and unleashed a two-game goal torrent on the Demize, handing the visitors a 7-1 pasting on Saturday, which made Sunday’s 3-1 beating seem relatively tame.
The Foxes, who stand a perfect 6-0-0 on the season, already punched a ticket to the U.S. Open Cup, the nation’s oldest soccer tournament. Rather than waiting around for the June 14 drawing to find out if the team gets to host an Open Cup match, the Foxes roasted the visitors.
On Saturday, Drew Beckie and Robert Zelin III each scored twice in the rout. Taylor Kemp, Sterling Copeland and Isaiah Schafer (no relation to the author) each added individual tallies.
Copeland earned two assists, while Kyle Christensen, Peter Davies, Michael Lind, Craig Thompson and Kemp each added an assist, as the team produced 16 shots. The Foxes were also called offsides seven times during the match.
Miguel Rosales had three saves for Real Colorado, while Stephen Conner had six saves in the loss.
On Sunday, the visitors from Missouri (0-6-0) got a little relief. On a 90-degree day, the Foxes mustered three goals to engineer a two-goal win.
